Generation Y Not?

The past few years, there has been an overwhelming amount of buzz about how difficult it is as a young professional to survive financially. I've seen CNN stories, wall street journal expos, and 20/20 investigations on how today's youth cannot support themselves due to rising cost of living, gas, student loans, and health care. What amuses me is that the media takes pity on our situations and sends the message that it is OK to move home and live with Mom and Dad after those 4 hazy years at University. I find it hard to believe that these reporters are looking too deeply into our lackluster generation.

If they did, they would find that gen y (born between 78-95) spent $625 Billion on consumer goods and services last year! Maybe the poor job market is to blame or maybe there are just too many cool things to buy out there. And why not milk off your parents so that new car payment is easier to afford. Society is loosing respect for the work ethic and integrity of the younger generation anyways. All I ask is that reporters touch on stories of all different young professionals both successful and unsuccessful. So are they being sarcastic when they report on a guy in his early 20s making 30k per year who lives with his parents not being able to make ends meet? Well, maybe he shouldn't have bought an iphone.....
